On behalf of Ron Overman and his “speedy” recovery,
please make donations to our new organization

Racers at Cajon Speedway have always been willing to help the less fortunate.  In 1999, Racers Reaching Out (RRO) is going to continue these efforts by reaching out to the race community. We are asking for donations from race winnings to change out of your ‘piggy bank’ or spare dollars left in your jeans.  Racers can pledge winnings from one night a month to help friends of racing who are less fortunate.  Racers will nominate families in need and RRO will try to help them out.  The circumstances, but not the name, will be provided to all racers who decide to contribute.

Because racers care..

Applications will be accepted from members of Cajon Speedway.

UPDATE ON RACERS REACHING OUT

Since its inception in May 1999,  Racers Reaching Out has received donations totaling: $4994.79.   As of the above date, nine  Applications for Assistance have been received and acted upon by Racers Reaching Out.  They are as follows:

The first application was a request for sponsorship for a young boy who qualified for the National Soap Box Derby, and needed hotel expense assistance.  Racers Reaching Out paid out $300.00 toward hotel expense for his trip in late July.

The second application was a request for two young boys (ages 8 & 10) that found their parents shot to death in their apartment.  A trust fund has to been set up to assist the boys, and Racers Reaching Out donated $500.00 to the trust fund.

Racers Reaching Out was given an opportunity to help a young mother that is working two jobs, (one job was an unpaid internship) She needed assistance in buying nutritious food.   A donation of $250.00 in food gift certificates was given.

We had a request to help an elderly woman purchase eye glasses.  She had broken her glasses, and she did not have the money to purchase new glasses.  Racers Reaching Out donated $100.00 to pay for her new glasses.

We assisted a family that was having trouble paying their rent.   The husband had lost his job, and they were only able to come up with $200.00 towards their rents.  Since then, the husband has found a new job.  Racers Reaching Out donated $438.00 to pay the balance due on their rent.

A  fireman-track worker at the Cajon Speedway lost everything he owned in fire in his apartment.  We donated a $300.00 gift certificate from Walmart to help him purchase some much need household items.

A young mother did not have the money to purchase some basic necessities for her new baby daughter.  Racers Reaching Out donated a $300.00 gift certificate to “Baby’s R Us”.

A struggling family needed to have the windshield replaced in their car which was their only form of transportation to work.  We donated $260.82 to have the windshield replaced.

A pit crew from Cajon Speedway found his wife dead from natural causes.   She left behind four daughters. Along with all his other concerns, the surviving husband did not have funds to purchase school clothes for their daughters.  Racers Reaching Out donated a $500.00 gift certificate to Mervyn’s.

The balance in the savings account is $2012.97  Both donations and Applications for Assistance are still being accepted.  If you have any questions regarding Racers Reaching Out, please call the above phone number, or contact Ron Overman, at (619) 561-0888.
